Job Description

We are currently recruiting for Standardized Patient (SP) positions. SPs will be hired as Part Time Staff of Sam Houston State University.
This is a wonderful opportunity for interesting and rewarding part time work and to join a new and growing medical school.
A Standardized Patient (SP) is a person who has been carefully trained to accurately and realistically portray the part of a fictional patient by simulating a specific history, personality, physical findings and emotional state of the patient. SP encounters are designed to simulate a fictional patients’ visit to the doctor’s office or emergency room. SPs allow students to practice communication, history-taking and basic clinical skills in a supportive and safe environment before students work on actual patients. SPs are carefully trained to provide feedback to the students which helps them improve their skills.
Just as there are all kinds of patients, we are striving to create a diverse group of Standardized Patients. We are looking for people who are:
• Interested in helping in the education and training of future physicians
• Capable of memorizing information and portraying the part of a patient, including learning and displaying the mock patients’ history and symptoms
• Looking for part time work
• Enthusiastic about being part of our inaugural group of SPs
• Excited about joining a dynamic Clinical Skills team
