BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Counselor is responsible to the Clinical Supervisor for the provision of counseling services.


EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

? Provide counseling services to assigned juveniles and families

? Provide counseling services in detention, office, or virtual sessions

? Provide 24-hour emergency crisis intervention for the detention center

? Conduct suicide assessments, maintain the safety of detained juveniles through implementation of coping strategies and therapeutic interventions

? Provide parenting skills classes as directed

? Provide group counseling services to juveniles in detention as directed

? Identify juvenile needs that cannot be addressed in-house and make appropriate referral recommendations

? Provide crisis intervention for the Department clients

? Maintain accurate and timely written reports related to the juveniles participation and progress in counseling

? Actively participate in weekly staff meetings providing recommendations for counseling services

? Provide court testimony as directed

? Perform other duties as assigned

Training and Experience:

? Master degree in counseling, or psychology

? LPC, or LMFT, LPC-Associate or LMFT-Associate is acceptable.

Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

? Commitment to the department’s vision of developing people to their full potential

? Knowledge of counseling theories and interventions

? Ability to work with juvenile clients and their family

? Ability to administer group counseling

? Ability to work in a team atmosphere

Additional Requirements:

? Must be able to work a schedule to include one weekend day and provide 24 on call service on a rotating basis

? Must have a telephone at which he/she can be reached

? Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License (if employee is coming to this position from another state, this requirement must be met no later than 30 days following the date of employment)

? Must have access to an automobile that can be used while on duty and have liability insurance
