Baseball: Conroe looks to build on win over Bryan.
CONROE, Texas – The first half of the District 14-5A baseball schedule comes to a close on Thursday, March 28, when the Conroe High School baseball team visits Lufkin for a 6 p.m. game.
The Tigers (6-15, 1-4) will be looking to end a three-game skid following a 5-1 win over Bryan. Conroe is tied with Bryan and Lufkin for fifth place in the league standings and still very much in the running for one of the district’s four playoff berths.
The Woodlands, 19-0 overall and ranked No. 1 in the nation by “Baseball America,” leads the district with a 6-0 mark. A&M Consolidated (4-1) currently holds down second place with Oak Ridge (3-2) third and College Park (2-3) fourth.
The Tigers look to return to form when a four-run seventh inning broke a 1-1 tie and sent them past Bryan. It was a team effort that saw six players share 10 hits while pitcher Ashton Harris tossed a complete-game four-hitter.
Chris Stevenson collected two hits and drove in two runs while Connor Ontivarous, Alex Delos-Reyes and Seth Pettier each added two hits and an RBI. Austin Briggs and Cordell Vogel rounded out the hit attack with one apiece.
The Tigers are at A&M Consolidated on Thursday before returning home for a Friday game with Bryan as the final round of district play begins. Both games start at 7 p.m.
