ORIGINAL STORY:
The Conroe Police Department arrested a former Conroe ISD police sergeant and a University Interscholastic League referee on charges of second-degree felony offense of an improper relationship between a student and an educator.
The two arrested and charged were Sgt. Christopher Lee Sutton of the CISD Police Department, and Brian Joseph Ortiz of the UIL. Sutton served 14 years on the Conroe ISD police force and was involved in many community programs with the school's children. Ortiz was a University Interscholastic League referee hired by the school for sports programs at Caney Creek High School.
The arrests stem from allegations of an illegal and inappropriate relationship with an 18-year old, male student who attends Caney Creek High School in east Montgomery County. Sutton and the male student met on a gay dating website and routinely met at a park and the student's home. The student then began dating Ortiz who threatened Sutton with media exposure, and reportedly informed the student's mother, who is also a Conroe ISD police officer.
If convicted, the punishment could result in two to twenty years in prison, and a fine of up to $10,000.
Conroe Today is pending a call from the Conroe Police Department’s Public Information Office for an update on the case.
