Baseball: Cashner tough out of Padres' bullpen
Former Conroe High School baseball standout Andrew Cashner continues to get the job done out of the San Diego Padres bullpen.
Cashner has allowed earned runs in just two of his last 10 appearances. Take away one bad outing against Miami, when he was tagged with a loss after yielding three earned runs on three hits and two walks in 2/3 of an inning, and the 6-6, 200-pound righty has been nearly perfect over his recent performances.
In nine of his last 10 trips to the mound, Cashner has allowed only one earned run over 8 1/3 innings, giving up six hits and five walks while striking out seven.
For the season, Cashner is 2-2 with a 3.45 ERA over 17 appearances that include 15 2/3 innings. Opposing batters are hitting just .211 against Cashner so far this season.
