MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- JDRF Houston Gulf Coast Chapter will host local businesses, families, schools, and other organizations at the chapter’s inaugural Greater Montgomery County Walk to Cure Diabetes at The Woodlands United Methodist Church Loft Campus on Saturday, Nov. 10. The chapter has set a fundraising goal of more than $150,000, which will help fund research toward preventing, better treating, and curing type 1 diabetes (T1D) and its complications.

The Walk is expected to draw an enthusiastic crowd of all ages, driven to support a great cause while enjoying food, entertainment, and many more family fun activities. On-site registration begins at 7:30. The walk will be approximately 3 miles long, starting and ending at The Woodlands United Methodist Church Loft Campus.

“We’re very excited to be bringing the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes to Montgomery County,” said Molly Naylor, JDRF Houston Gulf Coast Chapter Executive Director. “Type 1 diabetes affects as many as 3 million Americans, and it is important that we bring communities like Montgomery County together to support and fund research to develop better treatments and one day a cure for those people and their families.”

In T1D, a person's pancreas stops producing the insulin required to survive. People with T1D must currently monitor their blood sugar levels and administer insulin via multiple daily shots or an insulin pump.

JDRF Walks are held in more than 200 cities worldwide. Nearly 900,000 people nationally walked last year and raised $86 million for research toward curing, treating, and preventing T1D and its complications.
