Express Laundry Center donates a “Ton of Laundry” to Assistance League® of Montgomery County
CONROE, TX – When Robert Maes and his employees find that their customers have left items in the washers and dryers of Express Laundry Center, located at 319 Sawdust Road in South Montgomery County, they follow a set procedure: bag the items and label the bag with the date and number of the washer or dryer in which they were left. The bags are then stored until claimed.
“People rarely come back to claim their lost items,” said Maes. “Our policy is to keep them for 30 days, but I decided to let the bags pile up to see how much laundry we could donate in one year.” The result was astonishing: over one ton of unclaimed clothing, bedding, rugs, draperies, and anything else that can be laundered.
Assistance League of Montgomery County was the lucky recipient of Maes’ collection. The non-profit organization supports its nine philanthropic programs through proceeds from its Thrift Shop, located at 126 N. San Jacinto in downtown Conroe. The all-volunteer staff sorts through the donated items and selects only items in good condition to place on their sales racks in the shop. Donations of this size are rare, but very welcome. The Thrift Shop is open for donations and sales every Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00 – 3:00. To learn more about Assistance League of Montgomery County, visit www.assistanceleaguemont-co.org.

Maes says he would like to make the donation an annual event. He wants to give the unclaimed laundry to Assistance League because he knows his donation will help to improve the quality of life for residents of Montgomery County.
