ORIGINAL ARTICLE:
CONROE, Texas - The “Dust Bowl Motel” makes its Conroe premiere Thursday, March 18, and will run through March 20 at the historic Crighton Theatre. Attendees will be treated to a two-fer, with the production collaborating with the Conroe Art League, to present the story in both the performing and visual arts.
“Dust Bowl Motel,” a new play by Scott McCarley and Jim Roth, combines acting and storytelling with video, accompanied by lively Texas music, to capture a unique theatre experience. The play centers on the struggles, heartbreak, and dreams, and one woman’s journey to find happiness. Four years in the making, McCarley’s interest in writing and music, spending many years at the Kerrville Folk Festival, has superbly leveraged the talents of a network of singer/songwriter friends he’s cultivated over the years, many of whom have lent their talents to make “Dust Bowl Motel” a reality.
Members of the Conroe Art League have likewise, lent their skills to the production, interpreting the theme in a variety of media, which will be on display at receptions hosted by CAL both Friday and Saturday, March 18 and 19, from 5 - 8:00 p.m. The receptions will take place in the Madeley Building located around the corner from the Crighton Theatre, at 127 Simonton.
Take a trip to the “Dust Bowl Motel” by dropping by the gallery to see the exhibit, which is on display throughout the month of March. The gallery is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. - 6 p.m., but to heighten the experience, see both the “Dust Bowl Motel” production at the Crighton Theatre, and the Conroe Art League’s exhibit.
The theater production has partnered with the Make-A-Wish® Foundation which grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. Make-A-Wish® Texas Gulf Coast and Louisiana has granted more than 500 wishes for local children within its territory in 2014 alone.
