CONROE, Texas – The weather doesn’t appear too cooperative to start the week of outdoor athletics. Both Conroe and Caney Creek baseball teams are chomping at the bit to get on the diamond and turn things around.

The Conroe Tigers bowed 12-2 to Oak Ridge last week while the Caney Creek Panthers dropped its second consecutive one-run game to open District 18-4A play.

Mitch Henshaw was impressive for the Tigers in three innings of relief work, striking out five. He also added a hit and drove in a run. Lane Johnson and Chris Stevenson also added hits.

Conroe (5-8-1, 0-2) was slated to play on Tuesday at Kingwood.

The Panthers lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at Huntsville. They grabbed an early 1-0 lead on consecutive singles by Kevin Jolly, Kyle Baird and Jake Sweat.

Jolly and Kadon Simmons accounted for half of the Panthers’ eight hits with two apiece. Doran Goleman, Adam Vento and Dylan Enriquiz also added to the hit total.

Rodney Schwind threw well, striking out 10 while yielding just five hits for Caney Creek.

The Panthers (4-10, 0-2) were scheduled to host Kingwood Park at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
