Lone Star Family Health Center receives endowment

CONROE, Texas -- Houston Endowment has approved a gift of $1.5 million for the new Lone Star Family Health Center. The relationships between Lone Star Family Health Center and our friends and partners has been critical to a healthy community. As a result, the Lone Star Family Health Center in Conroe is experiencing a 30% growth over last year, and approaching 60,000 anticipated medical visits.
The Conroe Family Medicine Residency Program continues to thrive. As one of a very few “Teaching Health Centers” in the nation, LSFHC offers a unique model for preparing primary care physicians in the setting of a Community Health Center. Well over 50% of their graduates remain in the Greater Houston area, while an average of 2-3 each year decide to stay in our service area.
New to the LSFHC team, Christine Goodson has joined the staff as a full-time Diabetes Educator. Christine brings a wealth of nutritional knowledge in support of impacting the change to a healthier lifestyle for many of our patients – especially related to diabetes prevention and control and childhood obesity.
The anticipated move-in date for the WIC (Women, Infant, and Children nutrition) program into the facility is early April. The presence of this program will offer an important resource for the community’s young families.
