Montgomery County United Way took to the Montgomery County Courthouse steps in Conroe on April 22 to celebrate and recognize those who have dedicated their time and talent to the residents of Montgomery County. During the celebration volunteers from the Salvation Army served barbeque sandwiches and potato salad lunches prepared by The Preecha’s Bar-B-Que, courtesy of event sponsor Consolidated Communications.

Danielle Schiener, MCUW Board Chair emceed the event where Patti Werner from the county judges office read an official proclamation declaring the day Montgomery County Volunteer Appreciation Day. Scheiner recognized the hundreds of volunteers who were active in MCUW’s committees and initiatives.

The big news was delivered by Chip Ray, Executive VP of CB&I and MCUW 2012 Campaign Chair who shared how much of a challenge it would be to meet the 5 Million dollar goal. Chip Ray along with members of his Campaign Cabinet one by one reported their dollars raised by division and announced an overall total of an astounding $5,001,383! Because of the thousands of donors and supporters of Montgomery County United Way, this year’s cabinet increased donations by more than a 10% over last year’s 4.5 Million dollar record setting campaign.

Chip thanked the more than 300 different organizations and many volunteers that helped to make the campaign a success. He emphasized to attendees that the dollars raised here would stay here and continue to make a local impact. Chip closed by giving a heartfelt thanks to outgoing MCUW Director of Development, Dale Gray, for helping to lead the charge on the largest campaign this community has ever seen.
