MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- Spotlighting National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week, the Empty Bowls Luncheon poignantly depicted the plight of those less fortunate by feeding attendees soup and bread in a ‘soup line’ reminiscent of the Great Depression.

MCEA and Lone Star Family Health Clinic feed the public to feed more.

“The idea of a soup line really drives home what it’s like for many in our community,” said Margie Taylor of the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance. “I see it every day.”

Held Monday, November 18, at Lone Star Family Health Clinic in Conroe, The Empty Bowls Luncheon requested a $5 donation to benefit MCEA, which will help provide meals and other essentials during the holiday season. Approximately 200 people passed through the soup line the cause.

For an additional $10, ceramic bowls handmade by students of Montgomery High School and Lone Star College, were available for purchase. Each empty bowl represented the empty stomachs throughout the county. Funds generated help agencies that serve food to poor.

The event was coordinated by Marilyn Walker Kasmiersky of Lone Star Family Health Clinic and the Montgomery County Association of Business Women (MCEA). Among the honorary servers included County Treasurer, Stephanne Davis Laviolette, Doris Minor Golemon of the County Judge's office, County Commissioner Craig Doyal, President of the Montgomery County United Way Julie Martineau, John Bracken, and Dir. of Building Services for Mont. Co. Wayne Mack.
