Registration open for 5th annual Woodforest Charity Run

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – Woodforest National Bank and the City of Conroe announce the 5th Annual Woodforest Charity Run scheduled for September 27 in downtown Conroe. The Woodforest Charity Run is made up of two certified runs sanctioned by the USA Track and Field: the Smith Hamilton 10K starting at 7:45 a.m. and the Insperity Invitational 5K starting at 8:10 a.m. at Heritage Place Park. The Barkley Shoe Dash for ages 5-7 and 8-12 will begin at 9 a.m. Additionally, all participants, volunteers, and spectators are invited to enjoy food, music and family friendly activities at the Woodforest Post Race Party.

The child-friendly Barkley Shoe Dash will be held on Simonton Street in front of Heritage Place Park. Young runners will begin their race with one shoe, dash 50 yards to retrieve and put on their other shoe from a pile of competing runners shoes, then dash 50 yards back across the finish line.
“We are so thankful to see our charity run grow in size and community support year after year,” said Patricia Brown, Sr. Vice President of Woodforest National Bank. “Over the past four years, we have grown to 420 runners and have proudly funded over $134,000 to the Woodforest Charitable Foundation to help in the support of many local charities in and around Conroe. This year’s run not only celebrates our fifth anniversary of the run, but also underscores our commitment to our continued partnership with the City of Conroe while financially supporting organizations in the community that ultimately benefit from our efforts.”
Paul Virgadamo, Jr., City of Conroe Administrator, added, “On behalf of the City, I invite the community to come downtown to Heritage Place Park Saturday, September 27 and participate in the Woodforest Charity Run. Whether you’re a runner or a walker, a spectator or part of the cheering squad at the finish line, you are sure to have a great time while witnessing firsthand the success of a great cause that so generously gives back to our community.”

Net proceeds from the run will benefit The Woodforest Charitable Foundation which supports local charities in the area like the Montgomery County Food Bank, Montgomery County Youth Services, The Friendship Center and the Montgomery County Women’s Center, to name just a few.
