CONROE, Texas — The Woodlands Lady Highlanders brought speed to the court as they swept Conroe 3-0.

The first two sets went by quickly for the Lady Highlanders as they beat Conroe 25-16 and 25-12. In the third set, however, Conroe was quick to remind them that the match was not over and made the last set a close one 25-21.

“I think we were just a little too relaxed just because we did play a little easier the first two games,” Head Coach Terri Wade said. “We went in the third game a little confident and thought we didn’t have to be as aggressive, and [Conroe was] fired up, their crowd was into it, they were into it, they wanted to win, and they caught us back on our heels.”

Stepping up her game against Conroe was senior Grey Kennedy with an ace, seven kills and nine digs for the Lady Highlanders.

“[Grey] brings a lot of energy and consistency to the court. She started off playing some front row tonight, too, and she added a lot of offense for us,” Wade said. “I think that brings some competition to the team and makes everybody step their game up.”

The agility that the Lady Highlanders brought to the court won lead them to victory. But Wade said she wants her team to be more than just good volleyball players.

“We definitely work hard and work on being well-rounded athletes—not just volleyball players. I think that brings a lot to the court as far as just pure athleticism,” Wade said. “I get a little more out of them with players that go for the ball all the way to the wall, and they’re just bringing that competitiveness from practice on the court.”

The Lady Highlanders will play at home against Atascocita Friday, October 9 at 5:30 p.m.
