Two cases of hand, foot & mouth disease at New Caney Elementary School

NEW CANEY, Texas - Two cases of hand, foot and mouth disease have been confirmed at New Caney Elementary School.
Hand, foot and mouth disease is a contagious disease that is often spread through a person’s nose or mouth secretions or by touching contaminated surfaces. It sometimes takes up to seven days to go away, but usually 3-5 days.
The disease causes fever, a body rash and blisters around the mouth, according to the New Caney ISD Health Services.
District officials said the disease is fairly common in children and said they're working closely with Montgomery County health officials.
In a statement, district officials said:
“Children do not need to be excluded from school, unless they have a fever of 100 degrees or more. Children must be fever free for 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medication, before returning to school.'
