THE WOODLANDS, Texas - Although not currently posted on the Anadarko Petroleum Corporation’s website, media sources are fueling the rumor that the fourth-largest U.S. oil company, is cutting 1,000 jobs, approximately 17 percent of its workforce. The unrelenting downturn in crude oil and natural gas prices was cited as the reason for the layoffs. The layoffs are expected to be across all organizations throughout the company, most of which will be at its U.S. headquarters in The Woodlands, Texas.

It was reported last month that the company would reduce its capital spending by fifty percent this year due to low oil prices and reevaluate its staffing needs.
