Blood Drive/Fundraiser for Eagle Scout Cody King July 3

NEW CANEY, Texas - The East Montgomery County (EMC) Firefighters Association in partnership with the EMC Fire Department, is soliciting blood and assistance for one of their own in the firefighter family.
Cody King is a recent high school graduate from Splendora High School who simultaneously received his Associate’s degree at the same time from Lone Star College. On June 15, he was awarded the honorary Eagle Scout award when he was suddenly very lethargic. He was immediately taken to an emergency clinic and then transferred to MD Anderson where he was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia in an advanced stage. MCL is an uncommon type of blood-cell cancer that begins in the bone marrow. It's even more rare in young adults.
Cody is the son of longtime volunteer firefighter Will King. King has been a firefighter serving EMC, and in particular Splendora Fire department, for many years. He is also the President of the newly formed EMC Firefighter Association, a non-profit organization developed to assist the fire depart with fundraisers, assistance during local disasters, and to provide scholarships for young people pursuing a firefighting career.
The King family needs your prayers and your BLOOD. A blood drive and fundraiser has been set up for Sunday, July 3, from 2-8:00 p.m., at Kingwood United Methodist Church located at 1799 Woodland Hills Drive. You can sign up to give whole blood or platelets at www.tinyurl.com/eaglescoutCody0716. Donors must be 17 years of age with a current ID.
“The fire department always does what we can to take care of our brothers and sisters,” said Fire Chief Jeff Taylor. “Will King has been serving the Splendora Fire district and local residents for many years. We support him as family.”
BBQ plates will be sold for $10. There will be the fire department moonwalk and other activities for the ids while adults give blood.
Please help the family by sharing this with your friends and coming to the event. Every donation will make a difference to this young man. His life may depend on it.
“Will is one of our own, which makes his son, Cody, one of our own also. We are all family in the Fire Service,” said Volunteer District Chief Mike Wing. Wing is also the vice president of the EMC Firefighters Association.
