Montgomery County libraries receive generous donation of books
MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas -- The Montgomery County Memorial Library System (MCMLS) has received hundreds of donated children's books through the Brownstone Book Fund, a private foundation in New York City, interested in fostering early reading, a love of books, and encouraging parents and children to read together.
The library system was awarded these donated items, valued at over $10,000, in part due to a response to the recent flooding from Hurricane Harvey. Thousands of dollars’ worth of MCMLS materials were lost in flooded homes, and these donations will go a long way to replenish the shelves.
Six branches of the library system have received a gift of 100 new hardcover books per branch, ranging in age level from pre-kindergarten through early readers. Examples of the items donated include many popular and classic children's titles, such as Alexander and the Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day, Alice the Fairy, Bark George, Fancy Nancy, Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed, Green Eggs and Ham, How Do Dinosaurs Go To School, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Pinkerton Behave, Skippy Jon Jones, Very Hungry Caterpillar, We're Going on a Bear Hunt, Where the Sidewalk Ends, and more.
Special book displays will spotlight the donated books in late February and early March, in order to feature the new arrivals and promote them within the collection. Check with the Children's Librarian at the following locations for more details:
