CONROE, Texas -- A high-speed police chase came to a fatal end early Tuesday morning , as Collin Johnson, the 15-year-old driver, crashed into a telephone pole on Highway 1374 near Huntsville. Gustavo Roberto Casillas, the 14-year-old passenger, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered a broken leg.

The chase began in downtown Willis at about 1 a.m., when a state trooper attempted to pull the joyriding teens over, according to authorities. The teens led police from multiple agencies on a high-speed chase up Highway 75. The chase came to an abrupt end at a sharp curve in the road on Highway 1374, where the driver lost control and slammed into a telephone pole.

Johnson died at the scene and it took over an hour to cut him out from the wreckage. Casillas was flown by a Life Flight medical helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating the accident and where the teens got the car from.
