MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX -- This week’s Veteran is Elise Cook. who served in the U.S. Navy from 2001-2008. Cook was a Navy Corpsman working as a surgical technician. She received her basic training in Illinois. Interestly, she never served on a ship as a corpsman, but always served on shore. Elise was stationed at Groton, Connecticut, which was a submarine base, where she worked at the naval hospital there. And we won’t go into the time she pressed the wrong button on a sub and almost launched a torpedo. That’s still hush hush and classified. Elise did a lot of stitching of sailors while on duty, and it has blossomed into her love of quilting today. She assisted with a lot with neck surgeries, and delivered a lot of babies while working in the hospital. She was also stationed at Camp Pendleton, and in Guam, where she met her husband Charles. Good Luck Elise, and Congratulations on being ‘Veteran of the Week’.
