THE WOODLANDS, TX – On Saturday, April 12, the Leadership Montgomery County (LMC) Class of 2025 and Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County, TX (Habitat MCTX) hosted a ribbon cutting of Jim Schulze Family Park in Cedar Creek, an all-Habitat neighborhood in Conroe, Texas. Designed as a space where children can play, families can gather, and neighbors can grow closer, the park represents the heart of what Cedar Creek is all about—community, connection, and hope. The ribbon-cutting ceremony brought together local leaders, partners, and Cedar Creek residents to mark this meaningful addition to the neighborhood.

The park features:

  • Park benches made by local Scouts of America Troops 89 & 890
  • Barbecue pits for family cookouts
  • A disc golf course for all ages
  • A Little Free Library to encourage reading and book sharing among neighbors
  • Beautifully planted butterfly and flower gardens

Vicki Johnson, Executive Director of Habitat MCTX, addressed the crowd: "This incredible space is the result of a community project led by the Leadership Montgomery County Class of 2025, and we are so thankful for their vision, hard work, and heart. They’ve given our families more than a park—they’ve created a space where kids can play, neighbors can connect, and community can truly thrive."

The park is named in honor of Dr. Jim Schulze, founder of Habitat MCTX, whose leadership and vision made safe, affordable homeownership possible for Montgomery County families in need. His legacy lives on in this new community treasure.

Sarah Rhea, Executive Director of LMC, shared: "I'm incredibly proud of this class project team for bringing the park to life with such creativity, heart, and dedication. Partnering with Habitat has been an honor—we truly couldn't have asked for a better collaborator. Together, they’ve created a vibrant space where the community can grow, connect, and thrive, leaving a meaningful legacy for years to come."

Conroe Mayor Pro Tem The Honorable Harry Hardman was among the special guests who spoke, and Rhea also read a proclamation on behalf of Montgomery County Precinct 1 Commissioner Robert Walker.

One of the most heartfelt moments came when Cedar Creek homeowner Kasey spoke, expressing her family’s appreciation for the park and what it will mean for the neighborhood’s children and residents.

Attendees enjoyed cupcakes, refreshments, and exciting raffle prizes—courtesy of LMC—including outdoor games, grilling supplies, coolers, and more.

Habitat MCTX began developing the Cedar Creek neighborhood in 2009 after acquiring 37 acres in Conroe, and when completed, it will include 129 homes. Cedar Creek has become a place where families flourish and community is built one home at a time. Looking ahead, Habitat MCTX will continue this mission with Marble Creek, its next neighborhood development, in Magnolia, Texas.

This milestone event would not have been possible without the generous support of project sponsors:

  • Berkeley Services
  • Fun Abounds Inc
  • Howard Hughes
  • Inspiration Ranch
  • Kroger
  • Michael Gorman
  • Native Plant Society of Texas – Pines and Prairie Chapter
  • Sarah Jones CPA
  • Scouts of America Troops 89 & 890
  • Windwood Presbyterian Church

Jim Schulze Family Park now stands as a symbol of collaboration, community, and the lasting impact of people coming together to create something meaningful. To learn more about Habitat MCTX, visit habitatmctx.org. To learn more about LMC, visit LMCTX.org.
