Montgomery County Bids Farewell to 158th Aviation Regiment “Ghost Riders” as Unit Decommissions

CONROE, TX -- Residents may have noticed an uptick in military helicopter activity across Montgomery County skies today. These movements mark the official transition of the 158th Aviation Regiment, 1st Battalion — widely known as the “Ghost Riders” — as the unit begins its departure from Conroe following its decommissioning.
For decades, the battalion has been proudly stationed at the Conroe-North Houston Regional Airport, serving with distinction both abroad and here at home. Throughout their tenure, the Ghost Riders have been instrumental in countless emergency response operations across the region, working alongside the Montgomery County Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (MCOHSEM).
Whether transporting critical supplies, executing life-saving rescue missions, or lending vital helicopter support during hurricanes, floods, and other disasters, the Ghost Riders have proven to be an invaluable asset to the safety and resilience of Montgomery County.
Known for their grit, tenacity, and their famed motto — “First In – Last Out” — the Ghost Riders carry a decorated history of combat deployments overseas while also answering the call here in Texas whenever disaster struck. Their presence has long been a source of pride for our community.
As the battalion prepares to depart for the final time, Montgomery County extends its deepest appreciation for the years of partnership, dedication, and heroic service.
