CONROE, TX -- This October, the chill is not just in the air but also on stage as The Players Theatre Company presents Carrie: The Musical, adapted from the Stephen King horror classic. Performances run October 10–26, 2026, at the Owen Theatre in downtown Conroe.

The Players Theatre Company to Stage Stephen King Classic

Based on King’s first novel—which later became a cult-favorite film—Carrie: The Musical tells the story of Carrie White, a teenage outcast who longs to fit in. At school, she’s bullied by the popular crowd and virtually invisible to everyone else. At home, she’s dominated by her loving but cruelly controlling mother. What none of them know is that Carrie has discovered she possesses a powerful gift—and if pushed too far, she’s not afraid to use it.

“Bringing Carrie: The Musical to our stage is both thrilling and challenging,” said Casey Burden, Interim Artistic Director for The Players Theatre Company. “Balancing horror, heartbreak, and hope, this story reflects on themes like bullying, isolation, and the courage to be different—topics that feel as urgent today as when the novel was first written. Our goal is to capture the raw power of Stephen King’s story while also showcasing the extraordinary talent within our community. We want audiences to be moved, surprised, and maybe even a little unsettled—in the best possible way.”

As part of this production, The Players Theatre Company is proud to partner with YES to YOUTH – Montgomery County Youth Services. Staff from YES to YOUTH will be present in the theatre lobby throughout the run of Carrie: The Musical with information and resources about their programs supporting local youth, particularly in areas related to bullying and abuse.
