CONROE, Texas – It isn’t a big rivalry…yet anyway.

The Conroe Covenant Christian School will take on The Woodlands Prep at 11 a.m. Saturday in the semifinals of the 11th Annual Covenant Christian School boys’ basketball tournament.

The hosting Covenant Christian Cougars defeated opening round opponents Texas Christian and Providence Classical School on Thursday to advance to the semifinals on Saturday.

Meanwhile, The Woodlands Prep Wolverines did the same, defeating opening round opponents Southwest Christian Academy and Richards High School to make their way to the semifinals.

Tomball Rosehill Christian is the defending tournament champion. The Woodlands Prep took last year’s consolation title and look for more on Saturday.

The tournament championship game is set for 8 p.m. Saturday.

The Covenant Christian School roster includes lone senior Connor Wilson, a 6-8 post. Juniors Jonathan Hansen, Joel Fox and Matthew Miller dot a relatively young roster. Sophomores Hayden Pratt, Corbin Vansteenberg, and Luke Fox are the future of the Cougars’ team along with freshmen Thomas Breedlove, Conner Bolleter, Robert Lynch, Nicholas Hatcher, Chase Hayden, and Ross Ohendalski.

The Conroe Calvary Baptist School also participated in the tournament, falling on Thursday to Richards and Southwest. Its roster includes lone senior Juan Sandoval, along with juniors Chandler Coker, Colt Blake, Clay Lewis and Alex Boyd. Sophomores J.P. Mason, Donald Bell, David Ringo, Trenton Krueger, and Jorge Hernandez, along with freshmen Tanner Everhart, Ismael Diaz, James Orr and Gabe Boyd, round out the varsity squad.
