CONROE, Texas -- “Cowgirl Peg” (Peggy Sundberg) can add her name to the annals of wild west heroes whose purpose was to right wrongs, rescue the oppressed, and in general, make the world a better place.

Originally she wanted to rescue horses in need. Starting with four geriatric horses, her herd grew to a total of nine. It was her relationship with needy equine, one in particular, that encouraged her to take to the trail.

“My life in recent years has been all about turning negatives into positives,” said Sundberg.

Sundberg has accomplished this by writing a series of books for children featuring her horses and one very special dog. The books contain positive, character-building messages focusing on friendship versus bullying, kindness and respect, dealing with peer pressure, and making smart choices. To date, the series consists of six books. Writing at least one a year since 2008, they’re titled the “Cowgirl Peg Book Series.”

Her first book and best-selling, “Lonesome the Little Horse,” is used nationally in “Red Ribbon” Drug Awareness school programs. Each book has a purpose and a special message. The books have been so popular that “Cowgirl Peg” travels around the country sharing the messages. She travels approximately 30,000 miles per school year, and just happened to mosey into town to visit with Sacred Heart Catholic School students on Monday.
