Cole Pediatric Therapy sponsors and hosts Special Olympics program Feb 23

SPRING, Texas -- Cole Pediatric Therapy is sponsoring and hosting the Special Olympics Texas Young Athletes (YA) Program on Saturday, February 23, beginning at 3:30 pm at the parking lot of Cole Pediatric Therapy, located at 16835 Deer Creek Drive in Spring. Nearly 58 children and family members will join several volunteers at this free, family-fun event.

The YA program introduces children, two to seven years old, to physical activity through sports play. There is no competition just participation, and each athlete receives a medal and a t-shirt while enjoying refreshments and fun. “This event is a way to show our patients that there is an athlete in all of us. Bringing out the athlete in children not only builds their self confidence, but it provides another opportunity for Cole to bring hope and change lives,” said Jason Stark, OTR, President of Cole Pediatric Therapy. “This is a building block towards Special Olympics-- by using the fundamental skills of a variety of sports so that all abilities can be learned and developed while experiencing the joy of success.”

The program features a variety of obstacles, games and other activities. YA also introduces families to the support that Special Olympics can offer their children. It is also an opportunity for parents, siblings, grandparents and friends to see the children’s accomplishments.

“This day is a culmination day for the kids to show off what they have been working so hard on in therapy. While a lot of hours and minutes from staff go into putting this event on, equally as much if not more, time is spent by these kids in preparation for this day,” said Justin Cole, Director of Rehabilitation at Cole Pediatric Therapy. “Ultimately, it’s about celebrating what these kids are truly capable of physically, mentally, and socially and making a difference in their lives. Through days like this and the therapy we provide, we are so happy and honored at Cole Pediatric Therapy to be a part of making that difference.”
