Montgomery County Fair Grand Champion steer sells for $35,000

CONROE, Texas -- The name Carwile is no stranger to the Montgomery County Fair & Rodeo. Once again, the Grand Champion steer, comes from the Carwile Show Cattle ranch. Colton’s Shorthorn steer, Tate, weighing in at over 1,300 pounds, took top honors at 56th annual Montgomery County Fair, and sold for $35,000 at the Junior Livestock Auction. The high bidder was First Bank of Conroe
For the second year in a row, a Carwile steer has won Grand Champion. In 2012, the winner was raised by Carwile and shown by Mathew Duval; the 2012 British Champion Steer was shown by this year’s winner, Colton. For almost a decade Carwile Show Cattle have had a proud legacy at the Montgomery County livestock show, winning Reserve Grand Champion in 2005, in 2008 the Grand Steer was produced by a dam from Carwile stock, and equally impressive…the list of champions around the state: 2012 State Fair of Texas Champion English Division; 2012 State Fair of Texas Reserve Champion British; 2012 Houston Livestock Show Champion Shorthorn; 2009 Houston Livestock Show Reserve Champion Shorthorn; as well as winning at almost every other major livestock show around the state…and it’s a big state.
For all his hard work, Colton, of the Montgomery Dobbin 4-H Club, has $35,000 for his college fund and future showings. He follows in his sister’s footsteps as many of the champions listed above were shown by his sister, Bailey.
Sarah Blair, also of the Montgomery Dobbin 4-H Club, won the Reserve Grand Champion with her steer.

“The Montgomery County Fair’s livestock auction is the largest among county fairs in Texas, in terms of money raised for scholarships,” said Golemon, who is the officer in charge of the Livestock Auction. “Annually $100,000 is given out in 40 $2500 scholarships. Through the years over $1 million dollars has been given out in scholarships to the youth of Montgomery County,” added Golemon.
This year’s Junior Livestock Auction was the first time the auction was held inside the Lone Star Convention Center. Previously the auctions were held at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. For more information about the Montgomery County Fair & Rodeo call or visit the link provided.
