Willis' Danton helps complete sweep

DALLAS, Texas – Kevin Santana delivered a two-run single to highlight a four-run seventh inning and the Woodlands Strykers rallied Wednesday for a 4-1 win to complete a sweep of a doubleheader over the Texas Marshals.
Trailing 1-0 heading into their final at-bat, the Strykers tied the game when Conner Fikes drew a bases-loaded walk, scoring Daniel Homann, who started the rally with a one-out walk.
The Strykers took a 2-1 lead when Zach Davis scored on a passed ball. And that set up Santana’s clutch hit, chasing home both Drake Roberts and Fikes.
Willis High School graduate Matt Danton (4-1, 2.03) got the win with six innings of four-hit ball. Danton struck out three and did not walk a batter. Gandy Stubblefield worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning to record his seventh save of the season and second of the day.
Dirk Masters had two of the Strykers’ seven hits.
The Strykers took the opener, 2-1. Davis scored on a wild pitch in the fifth inning and Masters scored on an error in the sixth. It was enough offense for three Strykers pitchers who combined on a four-hitter.
Kael Jones, making his second start of the season, went 4 2/3 innings allowing just two hits and no runs. He struck out one and walked three.
Nolan Riggs worked an inning before Stubblefield got out of a bases-loaded situation in the sixth inning and recorded his sixth save of the year by pitching the final inning as well. The Strykers’ closer did not allow a hit in 1 1/3 innings while walking one and striking out a batter.
Five Strykers players accounted for the team’s five hits. Drake Roberts, Fikes (1-1, 3 BB), Ricky Sanchez, Masters, and Davis contributed one apiece.
The Strykers, 3-7 in Texas Collegiate League second-half play and 12-28 overall, return home for 7:05 p.m. games Thursday and Friday with the Victoria Generals.
There will be a special promotion on Friday for Interfaith of The Woodlands. Fans bringing non-perishable food items, to be donated to Interfaith, will receive half-off general admission tickets to the game.
