Conroe to host detachment of Houston Medical Response Group of Texas State Guard

CONROE, Texas -- Conroe will soon start hosting the Conroe Detachment of the Houston Medical Response Group of the Texas State Guard. The detachment is looking for new members from the Conroe area, including north Harris County and the Woodlands, Montgomery County, as well as Huntsville and Walker County. They will join members of the Houston Group who live north of Houston and who will drill in Conroe as well.

Conroe Detachment needs new members to staff up for natural and public health emergencies.

The Conroe Detachment will be staffed by both medical and non-medical personnel. Both military veterans and those with no prior military experience, are sought as members. The Houston Medical Response Group responds within the State of Texas as ordered by the Governor, to natural disasters such as hurricanes or tornados, public health emergencies such as flu epidemics, and attacks on the public health. It performs community service missions in Texas as well.

The Conroe Detachment held its first meeting Saturday, March 8, at 8:00 a.m., at the Denney’s Restaurant at 2243 Stoneside Road on the I-45 Feeder north of Loop 336.

The Texas State Guard is one of the three branches of the Texas Military Forces, along with the Texas Army National Guard and the Texas Air National Guard. Members of the Texas State Guard serve under the Governor of Texas and cannot be nationalized.

The Texas State Guard is among the Texans who step up when local communities need extra help. The motto of the Texas State Guard is “Texans Helping Texans."
