Mayor Leonard Reed of the City of Willis and City Manager, Hector Forestier welcomed Montgomery County United Way (MCUW) as they kicked off the Workplace Wellness program for city employees.

During the 12-month pilot program, participants will be offered onsite weekly fitness classes provided by YMCA of Conroe, and monthly onsite educational presentations. The presentations will be given by various professionals from the medical community including Conroe Regional Medical Center, Memorial Hermann Iron Man and other private practices.

“We’re really excited about United Way and our staff putting this together,” Reed said. “We’re going to try to get the whole community involved in healthy activity.” Other staff members for the city of Willis expressed their hope that the program and health conscience habits would carry over into the city of Willis, as they become role models for a better way to live in Montgomery County.

Jodie Schrier, Workplace Wellness Coordinator for MCUW, stated “The goal of the Workplace Wellness program is to educate, empower, and raise the level of awareness about obesity and the health issues connected to it.”

The Workplace Wellness program offers fun challenges, incentives and cooking demonstrations provided by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension to educate and keep participants engaged. For more information on MCUW’s Workplace Wellness program contact Jodie at Jodie@mcuw.org
