CBOW sponsors Winter Health and Wellness event January 31

CONROE, TX -- Children’s Books on Wheels will sponsor a Winter Health and Wellness Event on Saturday, January 31 from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm, at Washington Junior High, located at 507 Ave. K in Conroe (77301). The free event will assist families with access to community resources in both English and Spanish.

“Navigating the systems can be difficult and frustrating to individuals. We want to help our neighbors get medical insurance, tax help, and assistance with food”, said Rita Wiltz, Executive Director of Children’s Books on Wheels. “ We do what we can to meet the needs of the community through education and resources”.

Partnering agencies participating in the event will be Lone Star Family Health Center, the Montgomery County Memorial Library System, Texas A&M Agri-Life Extension –Family and Consumer Sciences, and the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. Attendees will be able to confidentially sign up for programs, receive resource information, learn some cooking tips, and receive health screenings.

Children will be entertained with a special guest appearance by the Veggie Pals. Prizes will be awarded through a drawing at 12:45 pm and you must be present to win. Fresh fruit snacks will be provided through a generous donation by Fiesta in Conroe.

Children’s Books on Wheels (CBOW) is a mobile literacy program providing books to children and their families at no cost. CBOW also provides Social Service Application Assistance and Community Resource Referrals in English, and several other languages. Certified Community Health Workers, Promotoras, and HealthCare Marketplace Navigators provide assistance for the underinsured and uninsured. In partnership with the IRS, our organization provides VITA, volunteer income tax assistance for families with an annual income of $57,000 or less by IRS Certified volunteers at mobile sites.
