CONROE, Texas - Before the City of Conroe annexed the area west of the city, we used an independent garbage collection service that provided twice a week pick-ups with only one container to hassle with. Now we will have two containers, one for recycling, and just one pick-up weekly, yet the service charge will not be reduced for the reduction in service.

We were told by the City of Conroe, the Utility Billing Department, that we did not have the option to use the independent garbage company that has been collecting in our neighborhood. When new residents move into the neighborhood, they not allowed to select whomever they want for service, even if another provider is available.

We live on acreage and have burnt tree debris when old trees come down during storms or high winds. Now we are not allowed to burn in the City of Conroe. We will have to bundle sticks and bag leaves, so they can be put in the landfill, which makes no sense. What do we do with the tree trunks? And what do the seniors in our neighborhood on a fixed income do, when a tree falls on their property? They won’t be allow to burn it, and the City of Conroe won’t take care of it.

We chose to live outside the city limits to avoid this bureaucracy and lack of freedom of choice. Now that we are annexed, we have no rights.
