THE WOODLANDS, TX – This July 4, celebrate independence from learning difficulties – and sign up for brain training at The Woodlands LearningRx.

Kim Bellini, owner and director of the center, explains that learning difficulties are not just a phase children will outgrow.

“Learning, reading, or attention difficulties rarely go away with time,” Bellini said. “If you sense that your child is struggling, you should take action. And, the sooner your child gets started working on building cognitive skills, the better the outcome.”

Improving cognitive skills – the basic tools used to process information – can help children, as well as adults, win their personal battles with learning and build self-confidence, she added.

Bellini said that educational research indicates the cause of most learning struggles is not poor classroom instruction but instead specific cognitive skills weaknesses.

If students are unable to process information effectively, she added, they are more likely to suffer from other problems, including poor reading comprehension, inability to stay focused and difficulty following instructions.

Instead of allowing students to become frustrated and develop low self-esteem in the classroom, Bellini suggests professional testing and training to identify and overcome the exact cause of a learning deficit.

“The good news is that cognitive skills can be improved,” she said. “We find a lot of ‘undiscovered’ learning issues through our assessment process. Even straight-A students can have some weak skills, which could become problematic down the line.”

Bellini said that at her brain-training center, The Woodlands LearningRx, the staff creates strategies that produce both immediate and lifelong change.

She said to get students off to a good start next fall, parents should consider enrolling their children in a program this summer that will identify learning difficulties and sharpen learning skills.

“This July, celebrate independence from learning struggles by understanding which cognitive skill deficiencies to attack,” she said. “Then find a program that fits with your child’s needs.”
