CONROE, Texas - The Olympics come to Montgomery County! Actually it’s the 32 Annual Texas Firefighters Games, but many of your favorite Olympic sports will be featured.

The games were established in 1983 by the Texas Firefighters Summer Games (TFFSG), in a spirit of brotherhood, and to provide firefighters across the state the opportunity to network. Hundreds of firefighters from all over Texas and the surrounding states…Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma, will be competing for medals and bragging rights, and to show they excel in sports every bit as well as they fight fires. Training for the games has proven to be an excellent cross-training method for the demands of firefighting.

The vision of the Texas Firefighter Games Board is to provide a family-oriented environment to showcase health and fitness, camaraderie, sportsmanship, and the sharing of ideas among firefighters from across Texas and the surrounding states on a yearly basis,” per the TFFSG.

The event rotates to a different host city every year, starting the third Sunday of July each year, and ending on Friday of that week. La Torretta Resort and Spa will host the games starting July 19 through 25. With the temperature reaching the high 90s, the firefighters are unphased by the Texas heat in the Greater Conroe area, as they’re acclimated to much hotter temperatures, but the competition does heat up. Safety is stringently enforced.

Safety is paramount,” states President Harr.

The event is actually a fundraiser for a local charity chosen by the local IAFF chapter of the host city, thus the reason cities vie for the opportunity to host the event. The Shriners Hospitals for Children, Memorial Hermann, and Parkland, are annual beneficiaries.
