Red Cross seeking assistance for elderly couple who lost everything in house fire
EAST MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - The Red Cross is asking the community’s help in assisting an elderly couple who lost their special needs son in a fire that not only destroyed their home, but their lives, less than a month ago on the evening of January 16.
An electrical fire sparked from a plug near a bed in their mobile home, resulted in the loss of their son, two pet dogs, and their home. The elderly couple managed to get out, but the woman suffered serious burns and smoke inhalation. She was taken by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital and was in ICU for a period of time. Her condition has improved but still serious enough that the family hasn’t told her the full extent of the loss; she still doesn't know her son is gone.
For those who wish to help the couple, donations can be made at any Woodforest Bank location, ask for the Hall Family Benefit, under the granddaughter’s name Elizabeth Hoberg.
To donate items of non-perishable food, household goods, appliances, or a used mobile home, call Sharon at 281-642-8396, or Renee at 832-428-2881 for drop-off locations.
