MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch in effect from noon Tuesday through Wednesday afternoon. The Flash Flood Watch is for a portion of southeast Texas including the following counties:

AUSTIN...BRAZORIA...BRAZOS...BURLESON... CHAMBERS...COLORADO...FORT BEND...GALVESTON...GRIMES... HARRIS...HOUSTON...JACKSON...LIBERTY...MADISON...MATAGORDA... MONTGOMERY...POLK...SAN JACINTO...TRINITY...WALKER...WALLER... WASHINGTON AND WHARTON.

Period of showers and thunderstorms associated with a slow-moving storm system are expected to move across southeast Texas Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday afternoon. The heaviest rains are expected Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Widespread rainfall amounts of 3 to 7 inches are expected with locally higher amounts possibly approaching 10 to 12 inches. The main threat will be flash flooding of low lying locations especially in urban areas with poor drainage or rural roads in hilly terrain. Flooding of streams, creeks, and bayous, is likely through Wednesday. Heavy rainfall may cause significant travel impacts during the Wednesday morning commute.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions:

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding...a very dangerous situation. Six inches of water will reach the bottom of most passenger cars causing loss of control and possible stalling. A foot of water will float many vehicles, and two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles including sport utility vehicles (SUV's) and pick-ups. The best defense is to avoid.

Monitor weather sources and be prepared to take action should a Flash Flood Warning be issued. Conroe Today will provide any updates from the National Weather Service on its social media sites.

A Wind Advisory is currently in effect until 6:00 pm CST, with winds 25 mph and gusting. Drivers of vans, campers, trailers, and other high-profile vehicles, should be on alert, especially when driving roads east to west.

The rain is expected to continue throughout the rest of the week but decreasing to 40-percent on Thursday, and 30-percent Friday. Rainfall totals may reach 4-8" by the end of the week. This increases the likelihood of street flooding in low-lying area. Do not attempt to cross flooded streets, and or go through flooded underpasses.
