Ceremony at Lone Star Monument and Historical Flag Park.

Those attending will be entertained by the patriotic voices of 30 second-graders from Lone Star Elementary as well as members of The Sons of the Republic of Texas, Lone Star Chapter #58, The Woodlands, dressed in period attire, bringing with them the historic cannon, Rolling Thunder. Friends of the Flag Foundation Board Member Dale Trimble will serve as moderator for the special event.

Thirteen battle and rally flags that replicate those that flew during the Texas Revolution will be raised by notable members of the Montgomery County community. Flag raisers for the 2016 event include::

John Burge, John Albert Madeley, Mary Ann Madeley Metcalf, Foster Madeley, Sheriff Tommy Gage, Hector Forestier, Arthur Stringer, The Honorable Trey Spikes and Barkley Spikes, Mrs. Dorothy Weaver Reece, Mary McCoy, The Honorable Craig Doyal, Dr. Ann K. Snyder, Sam Cable, Deputy Chief Philip Dupuis and Walter D. Wilkerson, Jr. MD.

The Texian, a bronze monumental sculpture and centerpiece of the Park by award winning artist Craig Campobella, captures the look of the common volunteer Texian. The bronze veteran of the Texas Revolution is figuratively posed three years after the battle of San Jacinto and on the day the Lone Star Flag unfurled across the Republic of Texas for the first time.

As an artist, I cannot be more pleased at how much The Texian has become an eye opening teaching tool concerning our rich and diverse cultural past,” says Campobella, visionary of the Park’s design. “The fact that this work has also become an award winning landmark, a book cover several times, had a poem written about it by a Texas State Poet Laureate, and even used as a pictorial decoration in several dining establishments, shows it is fulfilling the purpose for which it was created: To Teach. Mission accomplished!

The Lone Star Monument and Historical Flag Park is a unique, educational outdoor museum open seven days a week, located at 104 I-45 N, adjacent to the Montgomery County Library in Conroe, Texas. Examples of thirteen battle and rally flags that flew across Texas during its fight for independence can be seen day or night, atop 35’ flag poles, with each flag’s history inscribed upon a bronze plaque. A bronze bust of Dr. Charles B. Stewart greets visitors at the Park’s entrance along with The Texian, the Park’s centerpiece, both created by artist Craig Campobella.
