Discovery College at Lone Star College-Montgomery provides affordable, educational summer fun for kids

CONROE, Texas – Every summer, millions of school-aged children attend summer camp where they make new friends and continue to learn about good sportsmanship, leadership skills and self-confidence.

Discovery College is a fun, exciting and enriching program for seven to 14-year-olds. Sessions take place Monday through Thursday beginning Monday, June 13, through Thursday, July 14, from 1-5 p.m. at the LSC-Montgomery campus.

Attending Discovery College is a great way to combat the “summer brain drain” and your kids will have so much fun, they won’t even realize they are learning! Sessions like 101 Amazing Science Facts, Solar Systems and Space and LEGO® Engineering will keep your children in academic shape for when they get back to school.

“We have a good time,” said Discovery College Camp Director Michael Robinson. “I am a high school teacher at Willis ISD. I firmly believe that learning is a by-product of fun and I bring that mentality to Discovery College. The kids are going to pick up lessons along the way only if they are enjoying themselves.”

Other unique sessions include Clay and Sculpture, All-Sports Camp and Girls Night Out. Each uses team-building exercises to let students develop situational awareness and learn practical life skills.

“Girls Night Out is one of my favorite classes,” said Robinson. “It teaches arts and crafts that are sure to be a hit at slumber parties. Every time I walk by the students are trying to paint my nails and do my hair.”

Knowledgeable instructors include local teachers, professional artists, and more. Each encourages hands-on participation in a variety of subjects formatted for age-appropriate groups. The instructors make learning fun and the relaxed, creative atmosphere allows students to develop new skills in a safe environment.
