MONTOGMERY COUNTY, TX -- The following events are planned for adults, children, young adults, and their families in June 2019 at R. B. Tullis Library, 21569 Hwy 59, New Caney, Texas.

Monday, June 3rd at 1:30pm – 3:00pm – Library to Go

Learn how to use Libby, by OverDrive, and Hoopla to check out eBooks, eAudiobooks, TV Shows, Movies, Comics and more with your library card.

Tuesday, June 4th at 3:00pm – Teen Breakdancing Workshop

Breakin' in a dance that focuses on creative self-expression and the celebration of music. Learn the basics in this high-energy workshop. Space is limited. Entry is first come, first served. This summer reading program is for ages 13-17.

Tuesday, June 4th at 6:30pm – 8:00pm – Learn to Play the Ukulele

Bring your uke and tuner and join in the fun! All ages and skill levels welcome!

Wednesday, June 5th at 2:00pm – 3:00pm – CROCODILE ENCOUNTER (SHOW #1)

Crocodile Encounter presents: "Animals In Space!"

Learn some fun facts about a variety of animals, including ones that have been to space. Then, brace yourselves to meet some of them! This is the first of two show times. RECOMMENDED AGES: BIRTH-12 YR. Tickets are required and handed out at the children's desk five minutes before the program. Note: Tickets are not given out after 2:15pm as a courtesy to the presenter and audience. Please arrive on time!

Thursday, June 6th at 3:00pm – Teen Henna Workshop

Learn about the tradition of Henna body art, learn how to make the dye, and pick out a design for your own tattoo. Space is limited. Entry is first come, first served. A signed waiver is required for this program. Pick up waivers at the reference desk. A Universe of Stories: This summer reading program is for ages 13-17.

Thursday, June 6th at 6:30pm – The History of Space Exploration

Join us for this fascinating adult summer reading program and learn about the history of space exploration and the moon landing from a Lone Star College professor! One lucky attendee will win $25 to Gringos Tex-Mex New Caney!

Saturday, June 8th at 10:30am – 12:00pm – Family Movie Matinee: THE LEGO® MOVIE 2

Join us for our three-movie summer series of movie matinees inspired by the Summer Reading 2019 theme, "A Universe of Stories!" One movie will be projected on the big screen every other week of the Summer Reading Program. For the first film of the series, children (aged 0-12 years) and their families are invited to watch The LEGO® Movie 2: The Second Part (2019) with us! Popcorn from Showbiz Theatres-Kingwood and soda will be provided. ALL AGES WELCOME. Rating: PG. Runtime: 107 minutes.

Tickets are required and handed out at the front desk five minutes before the program. Note: Tickets are not given out after 11:00am as a courtesy to the presenter and audience. Please arrive on time!

Monday, June 10th at 1:30pm – 3:00pm – Computer Basics Part 1

Learn how to use a computer and get an introduction to the Windows 10 Operating System. Great for the new computer user.

Tuesday, June 11th at 3:00pm – Teen DJ/Mixing Workshop

This DJ'ing class provides students with hands-on instruction in the use of equipment, mixing, scratching and cutting, and hosting (MC'ing). Space is limited. Entry is first come, first served. A Universe of Stories: This summer reading program is for ages 13-17.

Wednesday, June 12th at 10:00am – Adult Book Club

In June we are reading "The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet" by Becky Chambers, as part of our 2019 Adult Summer Reading Program! The Summer Reading theme this year is "A Universe of Stories". Join us for coffee and a fun discussion! Newcomers always welcome!

Wednesday, June 12th at 2:00pm – 3:00pm – TOM’S FUN BAND (SOUND SPACE)

Tom's Fun Band presents: "Sound Space!" Sing, dance, and explore the science of sound and music on this planet and beyond! RECOMMENDED AGES: BIRTH-12 YR. Thursday, June 13th at 3:00pm – Teen Magic Workshop

In this magic workshop, teens will learn some tip and tricks to learn some magic tricks. Space is limited. Entry is first come, first served. A Universe of Stories: This summer reading program is for ages 13-17.

Saturday, June 15th at 10:30am – Friends of Texas Wildlife Program (ALL AGES)

Everyone is invited to this exciting program presented by the Friends of Texas Wildlife organization! There will be a craft and, after the informational presentation about the Friends of Texas Wildlife, everyone will get the chance to meet a wild animal live and in-person! Tickets are required and handed out at the front desk five minutes before the program. Note: Tickets are not given out after 10:45am as a courtesy to the presenter and audience. Please arrive on time!

Monday, June 17th at 1:30pm – 3:00pm – Computer Basics Part 2

Tuesday, June 18th at 6:30pm – Summer Movie Night

Join us for a special summer edition of Tullis Movie Night on the big screen! We will be showing The Upside (PG-13) starring Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston. Free popcorn and soda will be provided!

Wednesday, June 19th at 2:00pm – 3:00pm – SCREEN PRINTING (PRETEENS ONLY)

Registration required, begins Jun 5. Young Audiences of Houston presents: "Screen Printing with Danny Russo!" Bring a plain, blank t-shirt to customize with a space design! REQUIRED AGES: 9 YR-12 YR ONLY. Sorry, no exceptions. Tickets are NOT required for this event. Instead, you must register for this event. Registration begins two weeks before the event on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 9:00 AM. Starting on June 5, 2019, you can register online at any time, or during the library's open hours in-person and over the phone (phone messages will not be accepted--please call during the library's open hours to register). Only 25 preteens will be admitted into the program on June 19, 2019. If registration is full, we strongly recommend that you still add your name to the wait list; if someone cancels, we will contact those on the wait list in the order their information was received.

Thursday, June 20th at 3:00pm – Teen Stage Combat Workshop

These classes are designed to train young students how to use the traditional positions of fencing in order to choreograph a performance. Space is limited. Entry is first come, first served. A Universe of Stories: This summer reading program is for ages 13-17.

Thursday, June 20th at 6:30pm – Button Moon Craft (FOR ADULTS)

Join us for a fun, relaxing evening and make a beautiful button moon collage craft to take home! As supplies will be provided, registration is required. Monday, June 24th at 1:30pm – 3:00pm – Keyboarding

Learn how to type without looking at your hands and increase your speed and accuracy. The use of fun, interactive websites will be used to teach you how to type on a keyboard.

Tuesday, June 25th at 3:00pm – Teen Escape Room

Test your wits and skills to see if you can beat the clock to break out of our space-themed escape room. Space is limited. Entry is first come, first served. A Universe of Stories: This summer reading program is for ages 13-17.

Tuesday, June 25th at 6:30pm – Community Performing Arts

Bring your talent to our summer Community Performing Arts showcase, an evening of karaoke, open mic, sing-alongs, musicians, and more! All ages can participate in this family friendly program!

Wednesday, June 26th at 2:00pm – 3:00pm – ALIENS & SPACE STUFF (PUPPETS & MORE)

Funco Productions presents: "The Aliens, Astronauts, & Space Stuff Show with Mick Corley!" Music, puppets, comedy--and fun! Mick Corley is bringing it all for you in this exciting and new show made especially for our Summer Reading 2019 theme: "A Universe of Stories!" RECOMMENDED AGES: BIRTH-12 YR. Thursday, June 27th at 3:00pm – Teen Paper Making Workshop

Learn about the process of how to make paper. After the instruction, you will have the chance to make your own paper to take home. All supplies are provided. Space is limited. Entry is first come, first served. A Universe of Stories: This summer reading program is for ages 13-17.

Thursday, June 27th at 8:00pm – 10:00pm – Family Stargazing Party

Join us for an extra special stargazing event, featuring high-powered telescopes and lasers, hosted by professionals from the North Houston Astronomy Club! This event is perfect for adults, teens, and the whole family!

Saturday, June 29th at 10:30am – Start a Community Garden

Learn how to better and beautify your community and health with a garden! Presented by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

Saturday, June 29th at 10:30am – DIY Rocket Design Challenge

We'll bring the art supplies; you bring the creativity! Children and their families are welcome to use the craft items laid out in the children's department to design and build the rocket ship of their dreams! Each participant will be handed a cardboard tube when they visit the children's desk. The craft supplies will be at older child/adult level, so younger children will need help from their guardian! Tickets are NOT required for this event. Note: This is a free-play program. Come and go as you please!
