CONROE, TX --

The National Weather Service Houston/Galveston is reporting a very cold air mass that will plunge into SE Texas over the next few days. A prolonged period of well below freezing temperatures is expected in most locations, especially inland. Record cold temperatures are likely in many spots across Texas.

Mayor, Council and city personnel are monitoring the situation closely and will be posting updates on the city website, www.CityofConroe.org, as the situation develops. Montgomery County will likely experience a period of snow, sleet and/or freezing rain, especially Sunday night and Monday. Periods of light freezing rain, drizzle, are possible through the weekend where light icing may occur.

Still uncertain is how extreme the cold will be and how much and what type of precipitation will occur but the potential of significant impacts from both hard freeze and snow/ice is likely. Travel Sunday Night through Tuesday will likely be hazardous so please limit travel if possible. Pipes may freeze, burst and cause damage to infrastructure so precautions should be taken to prevent damage. Wrap exposed pipes, shut off irrigation systems, and drip faucets to prevent freezing of pipes. Ice accretion, wind and power demand could lead to power outages. Have a safety plan in place in case of power outages.
