Football: Caney Creek closes 2012 season

The Caney Creek High School football team completed the 2012 season last week against District 18-4A champions Brenham.
It wasn’t one of the better performances by the Caney Creek Panthers, falling 56-17 to complete a 2-8 season that included a 1-7 record in District 18-4A play. The lone district win was a 34-33 victory over Magnolia. The Panthers also claimed a 49-25 victory over New Caney Porter early in the season.
But the Panthers had their moments this season. Senior quarterback Kadon Simmons threw for 226 yards and three touchdowns while running back Chris Coffer added 200 yards and a touchdown rushing in a wild 55-48 loss to Waller. John Lamb finished with 128 receiving yards and one touchdown on four pass receptions.
It was a game in which the Panthers rallied from 15 points down in the fourth quarter to tie it up with a late touchdown and two-point conversion only to have the home team score the game-winner with just 16 seconds to play.
The opening game of the season, a 21-20 loss to New Caney was another “near-miss” that kept the Panthers from a possible .500 season.
