Q&A with Caney Creek football coach, Steve Svendsen

Conroe Today sat down with Caney Creek High School's Head Football Coach, Steve Svendsen, to get an inside look on the upcoming season.
What is your vision for athletics at Caney Creek High School?
"The immediate vision is to change the culture at Caney Creek. Changing of this vision will require a lot of work by coaches and students alike. The overall vision involves building this program from the bottom up in our total athletic program. We will build this program up on 4 foundational pillars: 1. Effort. 2. Enthusiasm. 3. Compete. 4. Commitment. These 4 elements must be in the forefront of everything we do to build success into our programs and into our student athletes. By shaping this culture through these 4 pillars, it helps put into place an outstanding environment for Caney Creek High School. Through all of this, we want to build student-athletes of character; teaching them life-long lessons about life that will help prepare them for their future endeavors."
What do you hope to come out of CISD Athletics for the 2015-2016 school year?
"I think the overall programs are strong and the coaches who direct them are quality people. The hope every year for every coach involved in CISD Athletics, is that each coach wants to be successful on the field of competition. But success also means that student-athletes have learned life-long lessons of life and have developed character in their association with CISD programs."
How can the CCHS Athletics Department contribute to CISD as a whole?
"It comes down to developing a well-rounded student. Athletics serves as part of the educational process for athletes to learn, to be challenged and to be prepared for the next stage of their lives...making them citizens that can contribute to society."
