Baseball: Caney Creek rallies past Montgomery in 18-4A opener

CONROE, Texas - The Caney Creek High School baseball team opened District 18-4A play with a 2-1 win over Montgomery on Tuesday. The Panthers scored single runs in each of the last two innings to erase a 1-0 deficit.

Kadron Simmons went the distance for Caney Creek, striking out seven. He also drove in a sixth-inning run to tie the game 1-1. Justin Wilkerson added a double and the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Morgan Mason had two of the Panthers’ six hits. Adam Vento and Kyle Goolsby added one each.

Caney Creek (6-4, 1-0) are in a tournament this weekend before returning to district play at Bryan Rudder on Monday. The Panthers’ next home game is 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, against Magnolia.

The Conroe High School baseball team dropped an 8-0 decision to Kempner on Tuesday after going 0-4 at the Ferrell Classic over the weekend.

The Tigers (3-9) continue preparation for District 14-5A play with a trip to the Barber’s Hill Tournament this weekend. Conroe opens district play at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, when they host A&M Consolidated.
