GRANGERLAND, Texas – It is a tight battle that is brewing in the District 18-4A baseball standings. The Caney Creek High School baseball team remains in the thick of it with a huge game on Thursday to close out the first round.

The Panthers (10-9, 5-2) host league-leading Brenham (16-7, 6-1) at 7 p.m. Thursday. A win and the two teams will be tied for first place. And they just may well have company. That’s because Magnolia and Montgomery are also 5-2 in district play.

Creating a logjam will be Caney Creek’s objective on Thursday.

The Panthers will begin the final round of district play at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, when they host Willis.

Kadon Simmons continues to lead the Panthers at the plate. The senior is hitting .356 with four homers, five doubles and 20 RBIs. He is one of five Caney Creek regulars hitting above-.300. Adam Vento, Kyle Baird, Dylan Enriquez and Kevin Jolly round out the group of heavy hitters.

Simmons is also among the leaders on the mound as well with a 3-1 record. Ryan Barfield is also 3-1 and Baird is 4-2.
