Hardman Sets Record Straight on Misleading Articles
CONROE, TX -- There have been several inaccurate reports posted on social media stating Harry Hardman personally received over $50,000 from a political action committee (PAC). This is simply not true. The campaign finance reports are available at City Hall.
“While everyone is entitled to their opinion, there are only one set of FACTS”, said Harry Hardman. “Let me state for the record what those FACTS are in the points below:
FACT: The organization in question notified me that it made direct expenditures on his behalf as well as other candidates. I had no specific knowledge of how much was collected by that organization, nor how the money was to be spent. This was accurately and transparently disclosed on his finance report. To be clear - I was not the direct recipient of those funds.
FACT: I did receive a direct contribution of $3,000 from another PAC, the Conroe Police Officers Association (as did two other candidates in this election). Other candidates are supported by up to three PACS.
FACT: I have a long and verifiable history of fighting for water rights for all Citizens of Montgomery County as President of the Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District. I have been consistent and passionate about this issue in every public forum I have attended.
FACT: Fighting to ensure Conroe does not settle with the SJRA prematurely is the fundamental issue of my campaign. The organization in question is aligned with this stance and decided to support a group of candidates who shares this perspective.
FACT: The citizens of Conroe pay the San Jacinto River Authority nearly $10 million dollars per year for surface water and in groundwater pumpage fees - and they are proposing an additional 20% increase in rates later this year. These rates are egregiously high, and we will not find relief unless/until the current contract with SJRA is voided. Conroe needs someone on Council with the deep knowledge of this issue to ensure that we ultimately win this very winnable battle. That person is me.
Hardman continued, “Neighbors, after property taxes, water rates are the highest taxes we are forced to pay - costing the citizens of Conroe tens of millions of dollars of unnecessarily high-water bills, and it must end. Left unchecked and unfettered, the rates we will be forced to pay will soon make it cheaper to fill our gas tanks than our bathtubs. I will continue to fight HARD on Council to make Conroe the most desirable place in the country to live, and those who know me know this to be true.”
Early Voting continues Monday May 2 and Tuesday, May 3 from 7:00am-7:00pm. Election Day is Saturday, May 7 from 7:00am-7:00pm at voter polling places. www.cityofconroe.org/departments/mayor-and-city-council/elections.
