Conroe has new head football coach
CONROE, Texas – Robert Walker was approved as the new Conroe High School football head coach at a regular CISD board meeting on Tuesday.
Walker, 54, comes to Conroe after seven seasons with Class 5A San Antonio East Central High School. His team went 8-4 last year, making its fourth consecutive playoff appearance and reaching the second round for a second straight time.
It was the third consecutive 8-4 season for Walker at East Central. In seven seasons there, Walker compiled a record of 43-37-1.
Prior to that, Walker spent nine seasons, in two different stints, as an assistant coach at Stephen F. Austin, his alma mater. He coached tight ends, running backs and the offensive line before returning to coach the defensive line and serving as recruiting coordinator.
Between those stints, Walker was 41-9 as head coach at Killeen Ellison, where he won three straight district titles and made four consecutive playoff appearances.
Early in his career, Walker coached at Anahuac, Newton, Sabine Pass, Woodville and Overton.
