Four Academy of Science and Technology students advance to state science fair

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas - Over 250 students from Conroe ISD competed at the Science Engineering Fair of Houston this past weekend after placing at the local science fair held during Sci://Tech in February.

ExxonMobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair (EMTSEF) March 26-29 in San Antonio.

Of those students, 53 qualified for the state science fair, ExxonMobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair (EMTSEF) to be held in San Antonio at the end of this month. Winners at EMTSEF will then be eligible for the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), which will be in Pittsburgh in May.

Four Conroe ISD students have already qualified for ISEF as a result of their strong showing at the Houston Science and Engineering Fair. These students, from the Academy of Science and Technology, who placed first are Margaret Steiner (11th grade), Behavioral and Social Sciences; Michael Bohnet (10th grade), Engineering - Materials and Bioengineering; and the team of Matthew Frangos (11th grade) and Christine Castagna (11th grade), Physical Sciences.

Conroe ISD Science Coordinator Sheryl Hime commented, “It is truly a recognition of the hard work and dedication of these students to be selected to go to the ISEF. Having four students already eligible to represent Conroe ISD at this competition is such an honor.”
