UPDATE: A Conroe Christmas...parade, festival, and contest (video)

CONROE, Texas - The City of Conroe didn’t let the threat of rain dampen the holiday season, and with the exception of a brief one-minute shower, the annual Christmas celebration and parade continued to the delight of the city’s youngest residents.
The celebration began at 11:00 a.m, with live Christmas music and entertainment, The free family event included vendor and exhibitor booths, festive games, snow hills with real snow, face painting, train rides, pony rides, petting zoo, concessions, photo opportunities, and of course, a visit with Santa Claus.
The annual, live nativity scene is always a popular attraction, and definitely the reason for the season. The parade that followed experienced a short shower, but those lining the parade route took it in stride and briefly clustered under the stores’ awnings.
One voice in the crowd was overheard saying, “When you’re wet, you’re wet. There’s no such thing as getting wetter than wet, so we might as well jump on out there and get it over with.”
The crowd agreed, and everyone remained as the parade continued to wind through the streets of downtown Conroe. Participants came prepared, marching under umbrellas and draped in rain parkas. To entice shoppers to the downtown area, retail merchants went all out with elaborate, window displays, some in keeping with this year’s parade theme, “Christmas Around the World,” and others in the old-fashioned style of the early to mid-century period of the 1900s. The winners are as follows:
People's Choice - Branding Iron Productions
Best use of Theme - A tie between Conroe Coffee and Mimi's on Main
Most Creative - Brownlee Jewelers
