Montgomery County veterans services to benefit from part of $6.3 million in grants from the Texas Veterans Commission

CONROE, TX – The Texas Veterans Commission has announced a presentation of $6,302,000 in grants to 27 organizations for providing services to veterans and their families in the Southeast Texas and Gulf Coast region.

On August 27 at 10:00 a.m.,TVC Director of Veteran Services and U.S. Army veteran Chip Osborne will present “big checks” to the grant recipients, who will each talk about how this funding is used to serve an estimated 4,808 local veterans. The event will take place at Honor Cafe, 103 N. Thompson St. in Conroe. The event is open to the public.

The Fund for Veterans’ Assistance was created in the 79th Texas Legislature to address the needs of veterans and their families statewide. Funding for these grants is generated primarily by the Texas Lottery’s games designated for veteran support. People can also donate when registering their vehicles or when getting a hunting or fishing license. The fund is composed of money deposited under the Texas Government Code, the Texas Transportation Code, and Texas Parks and Wildlife Code. Since 2009 through the current 2026 - 2027 grant cycle, more than $400 million in grant funding has been awarded through 1,790 FVA grants.

Montgomery County will receive $100,000 for financial assistance and $261,000 for veterans treatment court. Other local and regional organizations and entities receiving FVA grants include:

• After Military Service (Camp SHiEld) – $150,000 for non-clinical mental health
• Castle Cares Community Ministries – $200,000 for financial assistance
• Cenikor Foundation – $200,000 for clinical counseling
• Colorado County Habitat for Humanity – $100,000 for housing for Texas heroes
• Easter Seals of Greater Houston:
  • $350,000 for clinical counseling
  • $100,000 for financial assistance
• Family Service Center of Galveston County – $150,000 for clinical counseling
• Fort Bend County – $100,000 for clinical counseling
• Fort Bend Senior Citizens Meals on Wheels & Much Much More – $198,000 for food meal services
• Galveston County – $176,000 for veterans treatment court
• Grace After Fire – $97,000 for non-clinical mental health
• Harris County Veterans Services Office:

  • $400,000 for non-clinical mental health
• Henry’s Home Horse and Human Sanctuary – $150,000 for non-clinical mental health
• Hope for Warriors – $200,000 for financial assistance
• Houston Area Urban League – $250,000 for financial assistance
• Houston Habitat for Humanity – $350,000 for housing for Texas heroes
• Katy Christian Ministries:
  • $50,000 for clinical counseling
  • 200,000 for financial Assistance
• Lone Star Legal Aid – $400,000 for pro bono legal services
• Northwest Assistance Ministries – $200,000 for financial assistance
• Project Zero Alliance – $26,000 for non-clinical mental health
• PTSD Foundation of America:
  • $300,000 for clinical counseling
  • $300,000 for financial assistance
• REBOOT Recovery – $72,000 for non-clinical mental health
• Rebuilding Together Houston – $300,000 for housing for Texas heroes
• Santa Maria Hostel – $75,000 for homeless veteran support
• SoleAna Stables – $60,000 for non-clinical mental health
• Texana Center – $40,000 for non-clinical mental health
• United States Veterans Initiative (U.S. VETS):
  • $250,000 for clinical counseling
  • $297,000 for homeless veteran support

In May, TVC commissioners approved 190 grants totaling more than $40.8 million to 160 organizations across Texas. These grants are anticipated to provide direct services to more than 125,600 veterans, their dependents, and surviving spouses across Texas.

The grants support a wide range of services from emergency financial assistance to transportation, legal services to family support services, and home modification to rental and mortgage assistance. The TVC awards grants in five categories – General Assistance, Housing for Texas Heroes home modifications, Veterans Mental Health Grants, Veterans Treatment Courts, and Veteran County Service Officers.
