MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas – Mr. Rooter Plumbing of Montgomery County was announced as the recipient of the Small Business of the Year Award at the Conroe/Lake Conroe Chamber of Commerce annual Chairman's Ball.

"I tried to keep my composure," said owner Roger Goertz, who runs the company along with his wife Natalie. "Knowing how hard Natalie and I work at being involved with our community, how hard our employees work in being the best at what they do – and knowing that plumbing is not the most glamorous profession – and then realizing how many customers and friends were in the room … I will be forever grateful."

Roger and Natalie believe a successful business includes three factors: customers, employees and community.

"It means working every day with your employees and customers, setting new goals, never accepting the 'status quo,' and being a contributor to your community," Roger said.

Roger and Natalie are both graduates of Leadership Montgomery County. Roger is a board member on the Rotary Club of Conroe, while Natalie serves on the board for the Executive Women's Alliance, chairs the Conroe ISD Mentoring Committee for Rotary Club of The Woodlands and chairs the Diplomat Team for the Montgomery County Association of Business Women. They are also involved with the Arthritis Foundation, Interfaith of The Woodlands, Junior League of The Woodlands, Lone Star Boxer Rescue, Panther Creek Inspiration Ranch and organizations relating to breast cancer awareness.

Roger and Natalie recently graduated from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office Citizen's Academy.

Receiving the Small Business of the Year Award from the Chamber will definitely be remembered as a highlight of 2018.

"We were honored just to be in the same place at the same time with all the successful, tirelessly working small and large business owners, knowing the larger ones started small," Roger said. "The room was filled with so much knowledge and experience that a lifetime of sharing and mentoring would not soak up all the knowledge that was evident."

The family owned-and-operated company established roots in Montgomery County more than 25 years ago, and has now grown from a 2-3 truck operation to more than 15 trucks serving customers at any given time. The team has evolved to include master plumbers, tradesmen, journeymen, drain specialists and apprentices.

"Our future will grow right along with Montgomery County and we look forward to it," Roger said. "Making friends along the way is the best part of our future."
